About
A morning email for people who like where they live.
Hello — I'm Nathan, and I make Morning Citizen.
I started it because the morning news had become national, noisy and exhausting, and the things that actually shape a day — what's happening down the road, whether to take a coat, what's worth doing on Saturday — had become hard to find. Local papers are thinner than they were. Social feeds are built to keep you scrolling, not to inform you and let you go.
So Morning Citizen is short on purpose. Each edition takes about five minutes with a coffee: the local news that matters, today's weather, a few things worth leaving the house for, and a puzzle. It is written for grown-ups. No clickbait, no outrage, no twenty tabs. Local first, always, and every story links back to the people who reported it.
It is free to read and it will stay that way. It is paid for by one local sponsor a day, clearly labeled, and by readers who choose to support it. I'm starting in Tampa Bay, then Phoenix, San Diego, Denver, Charlotte and Minneapolis–St. Paul — one city at a time, getting each edition right before the next.
If you reply to an edition, it comes to me, and I read every one.
— Nathan
